Our European Adventure | MADRID

Hola! For those of you who don’t know, Daniel and I are spending 12 days in Europe to celebrate our first year of marriage (woot woot!). We spent our first 4 days in Madrid, my favorite city in the world. I am a little bias because this is where I studied abroad in college, but I think these pictures might make you agree with me.  I have highlighted our 3 full days for you to get a sense of what our time in this wonderland was like!

DAY ONE

Our first full day, we went to Retiro Park (el Parque Buen Retiro) and walked the whole thing! This place has so many hidden gems, it is hard to find them all, but wow are they worth it. Some highlights of the day are pictured below!

I can’t get enough of this place! Every single one of these photos after the very first one of el Banco de España was taken inside the park. HOW COOL?! We walked 12 miles this day and definitelyyyy felt in our feet…you’ll be seeing me wear sneakers a lot more often from here on out! The second half of our first day was spent shopping along Gran Via and eating lots and lots of ice cream and pinchos.

DAY 2

Saturday we checked out the western side of the city! Starting with an Egyptian temple gifted to Spain in the 14th century, we walked south to see a huge mall inside a train station, the Royal Palace, the Cathedral of Almudena, and lots of shopping!

Seriously…so gorgeous! There is very little about this day that wasn’t perfect. The views, the food, and the weather were amazing. Some people may have been tapas-ed out or tired of walking after this day, but not us! We were ready to gear up and head out on Sunday!

DAY 3

Museum day!! Any Spanish art fans out there? We went to the two most famous art museums in the city, the Prado and the Reina Sofia, on our third day. Basically, we spent all morning gawking at Velasquez, Picasso, Dalí, Rembrandt, Goya, El Greco, Miró, and more! I wish I could show you more pictures, but photo taking is pretty limited in these museums so I will share what I can! Also, I have put a few other just pretty Madrileña photos for you to see and maybe push you over the edge to fall in love with this city as much as me 🙂

Our visit to Madrid ended with a Real Madrid game! Daniel is a pretty huge soccer fan so this was such a fun thing to do together. And the biggest surprise of the trip…we had VIP tickets! I swear we had no idea and bought them accidentally (they were the cheapest tickets we were looking at!) but were pleasantly surprised when we got ushered to the VIP lounge where unlimited food and drink awaited. Needless to say, the game itself was spectacular and our VIP treatment pushed us over the top.

Well y’all I hope you’ve enjoyed this recap! Stay tuned in a few days when I post the Bilbao one…this city is pretty amazing so far and you will definitely not want to miss this!
