My ‘Why’

This a post I have wanted to write for a while because everything I do with this business comes back to my ‘why.’ Why am I a photographer? Why did I choose wedding photography? Why do I LOVE my job? I realized that every little thing I do comes back to the answers to these questions and I want to share those with you.

The first and by far the most important component of my ‘why’ is that I 100% know God has called me to do this. What’s crazy, is I didn’t even know I wanted this job. I never said ‘oh I want to be a photographer’ because honestly, I didn’t think it was a job I could aspire too. But God has a way of doing the impossible and knowing what’s best for us when we don’t see it ourselves. He gave me a love for being in and taking photos from day one. I’m so happy He called me to do something He gave me a love for. Back in the fall, it became so obvious that I wasn’t in the right job and chasing this dream of becoming a photographer maybe wasn’t so far fetched after all.

So that’s why I am a photographer, but why weddings? Why couples? It all boils down to the concept that I view photography as a way to serve people. That’s why I don’t photograph landscapes or inanimate objects…because I can’t serve them through my photography the way I can people! Weddings are my favorite because I think marriage is so important. Marriage is the most important earthly relationship we will ever have, and I have the opportunity to celebrate and serve couples as they enter into it. Marriage is a representation of the greatest love story ever – how God loves all of us. I want to be able to encourage and impact marriages, not just weddings. I want couples who are 5, 10, or 30 years into their marriage to still look at their wedding photos and remember their own ‘why.’ Why they chose to love one another unconditionally, even when it’s really hard. I truly believe photos have that kind of power. And my #MarieMedinaCouples believe it too. That’s why I absolutely love being a wedding photographer!

I believe photos have that same power with other milestone events in a person’s life, and that’s why I am not exclusively a wedding photographer. Families, anniversaries, new babies, birthdays, and graduations are also ways I can use photography to serve people. That’s why I will never give up those things entirely!

I hope this helped all of you get a better idea of why I do what I do! It actually helped me remind myself, because in the craziness of busy season, it’s very easy to forget. So thank you all for letting me share my ‘why’!
