The Johnsons | A Howard County Family

CUTENESS ALERT!!!

You would never guess that it was the dead of winter in these photos! I got to hang out with some of my favorite kiddos and their parents yesterday, the Johnsons. This family session was part of a mentoring session I did with Michelle from Michelle Cisneros Photography! She is a newer photographer to the game, but y’all she is killing it! I had such a fun time getting to mentor her yesterday afternoon. We updated the Johnsons’ family portraits as I was able to mentor Michelle every step of the way. They are friends of mine and hadn’t gotten new portraits since last June when they had their fourth little one, Parker!

This family could not have been more photogenic. The kids, Riley, Matthew, Jacob, and Parker, all will make your heart melt. They loved the camera and totally knew how cute they are 😛 Ben and Rachel are the kindest parents who model love and servanthood for their children well. If you love their outfits, go check out Rachel’s blog, Feminine in Denim!

It was so fun to be able to explain my processes and what’s happening in my head during a session to Michelle. Although, it was harder than I expected! So much of what I do is habit or muscle memory now. Mentoring other photographers is fun for me because I remember exactly how overwhelmed I was when I started. There was so much to learn and I didn’t know where to start. Other photographers came alongside me to guide and mentor me, which made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this sea of acronyms, terms, and webinars! That’s what I want to do with other people. I want to be the person who opens up the back end of their business to let others in and make the sea feel a little more like a pond 😛

Plus, getting to photograph people is my favorite thing to do! So having any excuse to pick up my camera felt like coming home.
